John Tinniswood, the world’s oldest man, has died at 112. He was born on August 26 1912 in Liverpool and has lived in Southport ever since.

It was announced he died on Monday surrounded by his family, at his care home in Southport, Merseyside.

Mr Tinniswood was confirmed to be the oldest living man in April, at the age of 111, and was the fourth-oldest British man ever.

He told Guinness World Records: “I can’t think of any special secrets I have. I was quite active as a youngster – I did a lot of walking.

“Whether that had something to do with it, I don’t know. But, to me, I’m no different. No different at all.”

He was named the oldest man after the death Juan Vicente Perez, from Venezuela, who died aged 114.

Mr Tinniswood was an avid Liverpool FC supporter and lived to see eight FA cup wins.
