Zoe’s Place children’s hospice in Liverpool has been saved from closure after an unprecedented campaign from the people of Merseyside.
Earlier last month the charity announced that they would be forced to close their doors at the end of the year unless they raised enough money to fund a new facility in Haymans Green in West Derby.
But today the thought of closure is a thing of the past as the hospice, which provides free palliative and end of life care to children has been rescued.
West Derby MP Ian Byrne said: “I could not be prouder to be a Scouser. This is Liverpool doing what Liverpool does best.
“Huge thanks to absolutely everyone who has responded to the call to help save this magnificent hospice for babies and children.”
From charity runs, to comedy gigs, to bracelet making – thousands of people and organisations from Merseyside and beyond have come together and helped raise the required £6.4m so that Zoe’s Place can continue to support and care for some of the most vulnerable children in society.
Other fundraising efforts saw comedians including Adam Rowe, John Bishop, and Ian Stirling hold a charity comedy gig in the Hot Water Comedy Club last month. In total the club raised over £81,000.
Liverpool-based Home Bargains pledged £2.5m – nearly half of the total goal. In addition, LFC player Trent Alexander-Arnold has donated £20,000 with other former players including Steven Gerrard having supported the campaign since the start.
The baby hospice had until November 9 to raise £6.4m due to their lease ending on their current home in Yew Tree Lane, also in West Derby.
Plans for the building and opening of the new premises are currently unclear.
