Mental health is a topic of conversation becoming more prevalent with each coming year.

People are working considerably longer hours and being forced to push aside their own wellbeing for the sake of survival.

That’s the concern of Sam Taylor, from the Comedy Trust, who spoke about the importance of balancing mental health and work and what their charity does to help.

He said: “If your workforce is happy, they’re more efficient; more productive; they’re more likely to stay.

“There’s an idea that you’re supposed to grind down to the bare bones that you’ve got left, work through your lunch, come in early and stay late.”

Their charity holds a variety of different workshops striving to help people through comedy, one of them being their “Health and Wellbeing: Workplaces” programmes.

“There are people who think ‘this is going to be good for our staff’, whether there’s a morale issue or challenging times for the business and that is when they usually bring us in.”

Sam said that clients love their programme because it’s inclusive, and you are “not just sat in front of a presentation”.

There has been an increase in interest in the programme, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sam added: “There’s a growing culture for multinational companies to want to look after their staff more. If your workforce are happy, they’re more efficient, more productive, and they’re more likely to stay.”
