Wirral Council have ruled that the vegetation growing on Hoylake Beach should be cleared.
Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat councillors all voted to remove 3 hectares of vegetation.
It follows a meeting of members of the Environment, Climate Emergency and Transport Committee on 15th April.
The highly controversial issue has split the town over the past few years.
The Council previously drew controversy for spraying chemicals to prevent the grass from growing and this was subsequently stopped in 2019.
On the one hand, environmentalists believe that the grass should be allowed to grow freely and others believe it has robbed the town of its beach.
The Council will now need to agree on a beach management plan with the advisory and regulatory body, Natural England.
Work isn’t expected to begin until April 2025.
