There are over 60 blue and green badge certified tour guides in Liverpool, according to city officials.

One of the biggest draws of the city is its unique and intense link to music, stemming from the late 1950s and 1960s, when Liverpool gave birth to musicians such as Billy Fury, Cilla Black, and The Beatles.

Beatles tour guides in Merseyside have their work cut out for them – but it all comes with a positive swing.

Even on their worst days, they have to keep smiling and stay positive, putting on a show to entertain the tourists.

As a tour guide on Cavern City Tours’ Magical Mystery Tour, Dale Roberts has given his fair share of history on the city, estimating that in the six years he has been guiding, he has spoken to “thousands” of tourists.

Owned by the same company as the Cavern Club, known as the cradle of British pop music, the Magical Mystery Tour is Liverpool’s oldest-established Beatles bus tour.

Charlie Skeggs, also a guide on the Magical Msytery Tour, says: “If people are giving their hard-earned money to come and do your tour and learn about their favourite band then they have to enjoy it.

“I enjoy it, and I hope they do, too … The Beatles are my favourite band.”

The tourism industry in Liverpool is worth an estimated £5bn, according to the latest figures from Liverpool City Region. During last year’s Eurovision, this figure increased, with the New Musical Express (NME) estimating that it brought an additional £30m to the city.
