John Conteh MBE is a renowned name in the world of boxing; however, he is also deeply involved in the world of golf and charity.
John has been an active supporter of the Variety Golf Charity for over 20 years, using his influence and passion for the sport to help make a positive impact on the lives of others.
Variety Golf is a charitable organisation that aims to improve the lives of sick, disabled and disadvantaged children, the charity raises funds to provide essential equipment, support and experiences for those in need.
One of the keyways these funds are raised are through golf tournaments where John’s involvement becomes crucial as the golf team captain.
The former lightweight world champion uses his platform to bring more eyes to the charity alongside former team captains such as Geoff Hurst and Sir Bobby Charlton. After retiring, John quickly took up golfing and charity work, earning himself an MBE in 2017.
Variety Golf has a famous line of “sunshine busses” as one of their charitable actions that can be seen driving around Liverpool often – they have provided over 6,000 nationwide.
The busses are provided to children with special needs allowing them to plan trips with more confidence no longer having to worry about public transport, costs, timetables or wheelchair accessible vehicles.
