As women across the world come together to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD), MerseyNewsLive spoke to Liverpool solicitor Laura Monti to find out what the day means to her.
The IWD campaign theme for 2023 is the #EmbraceEquity campaign and aims to get the world talking about “Why equal opportunities aren’t enough.”
Litigation solicitor Laura of Morecrofts, Liverpool, is also a busy mum of three and expressed her views on IWD in an article on her company’s website.
She said: “I wanted to highlight the importance of working in a company which advocates equality given that gender disparity is still evident, particularly in the legal profession.
“As a working mother of three, I often face challenges juggling home and work life.
“However, being part of a firm that understands such challenges and offers a flexible approach to managing them has allowed me to maintain my role as a solicitor whilst ensuring that I am also available for my children.
“I have always felt valued as a solicitor within Morecrofts, and its attitude towards women in the workplace has always been one that I have continued to show appreciation for.”
While Laura can thrive in her working life, she admits that more needs to be done to enable women to progress in their careers.
She said: “I think the issue of gender diversity is changing for the better.
“However, more does need to be done to educate employers about unconscious gender bias and to promote more awareness about the challenges faced by women who seek to climb the ladder to more senior roles.
“It is important to keep this issue at the forefront of the values of an organisation so that women can overcome the issues and achieve empowerment.”
