Boris Johnson will visit Cammell Laird shipyard in Birkenhead today to announce a £4 billion pound investment for new vessels.
This will create tens of thousands of jobs and deliver more than 150 new naval and civil vessels over the next 30 years, the Government has said.
The fund was announced in the 2020 Spending review and the 2021 Autumn Budget.
It comes as Ministry of Defence prepares to publish its refreshed National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSbS) today.
It will outline how the Government will support UK shipyards across the nation going forward.
The Prime Minister will meet shipbuilding experts during the visit.
Downing Street said the investment will ‘galvanise’ shipyards and suppliers across the country.
