Southport Market is re-opening today with a new weekly indoor artisan market.

The venue has been closed since the middle of January to allow final refurbishment work to take place.

From today, a weekly market in the Incredible Extravaganza space, will give local traders the chance to showcase their products.

The £1.4 million refurbishment, which has transformed the site, was aimed at tackling the decline the market had been suffering in recent years.

When it reopened last July the venue was extremely popular with tens of thousands of customers attending the venue over the festive period.

However, it had to close briefly last month to allow for “much-needed respite” for the staff and to enable “finishing touches and refurbishment work” to be carried out.

Cllr Marion Atkinson, Sefton Council’s Labour Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills, said it would give the market a chance to “put the finishing touches and additional final refurbishments to the venue.”

A new trader, Cone Head, will join the indoor market and will be selling delicious desserts ranging from cookie dough to warm waffles and ice cream.

Visitors will be able to find local crafts, personalised products, and enjoy the brand new calendar of events at the market including weekly open mic nights, live music sessions and an “Easter Extravaganza”.

Southport Market said: “The market is home to ten food traders all serving delicious and freshly cooked food from across the world.

“The central carousel bar serves local ales, has an extensive cocktail and gin menu as well as a hot drinks station.”

The market is on King Street in Southport and will be open from 10am-10pm Wednesday until Sunday.
