The Merseyside writer of new BBC hit show The Responder has dedicated the last episode of the drama to his cousin who died yesterday.
Tony Schumacher, a former police officer from Liverpool, tweeted last night as the final episode went out to remember his “beautiful, funny, intelligent and caring cousin”, Joanne Schumacher.
The last episode of #TheResponder tonight, and I'd like to dedicate it to my beautiful, funny, intelligent and caring cousin Joanne Schumacher who sadly passed away today.
She was ace, and I'm going to miss her very very much.— Tony Schumacher (@tonyshoey) February 2, 2022
The screenwriter, who started working on the script two years ago, felt it was only right he honoured her with this last episode.
The show, starring Martin Freeman as Urgent response officer Chris Carson working night shifts on his beat in Liverpool with a new rookie partner, has gripped viewers.
Lucy Mangan TV writer for the Guardian said: “The script is an astoundingly tough, vigorous, sinewy thing without a wasted word or moment.”
Now, fans are eager to find out if there will be another series of the show.
Tony added to the tension with another tweet last night when he promised he would see fans again soon.
Most of all that, thanks so much to all of you who've joined us on this ride, I hope you've enjoyed it as much as I have.
See you again soon.
Much love,
