Liverpool has seen boiling temperatures today as a record broke in London where it was the warmest start to May on record.

The Met Office has confirmed this, after temperatures hit 28 degrees at Kew Gardens in south west London. The previous May 1st record was 27.4C – set at Lossiemouth in 1990.

After temperatures hit levels hotter than Benidorm yesterday reaching highs of 26C, today saw more warm weather in the city with highs of 24C.

The recent warm weather has come from a large area of high pressure sitting across the country, essentially blocking cooler air systems.

The usual rain-bearing Atlantic low pressure systems have consequently been pushed away leaving the UK and Liverpool sun-soaked.

Wednesday saw record-breaking temperatures in Wales for an April day, and around the UK, we have seen more scorching weather.

This weather will not stick around for long however, as over the weekend temperatures are set to drop while conditions remain dry and mostly sunny.
