Alder Hey children’s hospital has been taking care of Liverpool for over a century and is a pillar of life within Merseyside.

But the hospital relies on fundraisers and challenges throughout the year to continue giving the best care possible to children in Liverpool.

The latest fundraiser is the Get Fit In Feb challenge, where people will be walking, running, swimming and even wakeboarding 84 Kilometres this February, all in the name of Alder Hey.

Joanne Bartels from Alder Hey Children’s Charity said: “Get Fit In Feb is covering 84 Kilometres across the whole of February. We’ve got a gentleman who’s actually paddleboarding for the duration of it!

“We’ve got people riding bikes, walking, running, you name it. Whatever way people want to travel. If you’re a wheelchair user you can use your wheelchair, you just have to cover that distance.”

Joanne added: “Any fundraising that goes on within the hospital all goes back into the hospital.

“For example recently our Medicinema opened, that was funded with the charity. We also have the neonatal unit that will open hopefully by the end of this year. That’s another thing funded by the charity.

“If you look at most hospital’s that are just NHS hospitals … you’re not going to find a cinema in it, you’re not going to find a magician for the young people, you’re not going to find all of the games and things that make it nicer for them to be in hospital without it feeling like they’re in hospital.

“That’s all down to the charity”

Everyone who signs up to take part in the Get Fit In Feb challenge will receive gifts for every milestone including a snood just for taking part, an Alder Hey beanie for raising £30, a challenge medal for raising £150 and a hoodie for the few who pass the £450 milestone!
