With this cold period that has approached us, after Christmas the rise of heated blankets have rocketed through the roof. Stores such as Lidl, B&M, Aldi and Dunelm are selling them. For students especially, the heated blanket was a vital present for the new year. They are quite affordable as they range from £20 to £40.
Octopus energy said: “One of our boffins realised that some customers were paying to heat their entire homes, even if they lived alone. He did some calculations and found out that were heating a whole home cost around £4 a day, an energy efficient electric blanket can hear a person for just 2-4p an hour.”
Arabella O’Brian, 20, a university student for Liverpool John Moors said: “I’ve always had an electric blanket since I started university, I understand that heating is so expensive now and an alternative for me is to use my heated blanket whenever I’m cold.”
Recently, the chain store B&M have realised stickers with a logo that says ‘Heat yourself, not your home’. Which can be controversial but from recent studies it shows that the average cost of heating your home every month is around £400-£500
per month (plumr). Which shows that turning to a heated blanket is very cost efficient especially with everything going up in prices as well due to the cost of living crisis.
