After weeks of indulgence in December it is estimated that 15.5m people are planning to give up alcohol in the UK to start the year on a healthy foot.

This is a challenging month for the hospitality sector with many pubs noticing a drastic decline in sales with the rising number people choosing to swap their 5% pint for a 0% substitute.

The Welkin Weatherspoon pub in Liverpool is not exempt from these drop in sales and are currently only averaging £5,000-£7,000 of their daily £15,000 target.

Manager Joseph Butcher said: “We have got a two week promotion Monday – Friday with different ones on each day just to try and help with sales.”

Other bars and pubs across Liverpool are encouraging punters to not give up on them during this difficult time as their range of non-acholic beers and spirits is the best it’s ever been.
