Protestors from HomeBaked Community Land Trust (HCLT) gathered outside Liverpool Town Hall on Tuesday to urge the council to not vote to approve the sale of derelict houses on the open market surrounding Anfield stadium.

Nine houses that served as an eyesore around the iconic venue were to be handed over to HCLT instead of being demolished but the council has gone back on their proposal.

HCLT “have been working together since 2012 to shape the place where we live and work in community ownership”, according to their website.

The deal fell apart with the council arguing that because their partner, Your Housing Group, withdrew their involvement they were left with no choice.

Tom Murphy of HCLT said: “Cabinet members are being asked to vote on a proposal without the full facts. We’re urging members to not vote until a full options appraisal has been completed”

The council has been approached for comment.
