St George’s Hall is home to four seasonal markets a year and last weekend it was autumn’s turn.
Around 70 independent traders headed to St George’s Hall on Sunday to set up stalls and draw visitors in with their autumnal atmosphere and unique showcasings.
The market, which started at 10am, was booming with many local artisans who were selling handcrafted goods including candles, jewellery, handmade bags, artwork and photography. Shoppers were able to chat with the local stallholders who shared the inspiration behind their creativities and talents.
The event was held in the Great Hall, which boasts stunning architectural features. The Grade I listed building is also a popular wedding venue and filming location for movies such as Batman and Fantastic Beasts.
If handmade treasures are not on your to-buy list then the markets also featured a variety of delicious foods from fish and chips to homemade pies, chocolates, cheeses, fresh tea, coffee, hot chocolate and sweets – there was something for everybody.
One of the highlights of the day was the live choir on stage which added a magical touch to the markets. Their performance not only entertained shoppers and stall holders but created a warm and cosy ambience making the day even more special.
Councillor Harry Doyle, Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Health and Wellbeing, said: “We were delighted with the numbers who came out in June to support local traders, so we knew it couldn’t be just a one-off event.
“We know that markets, done right, can be hugely popular and we have never been shy about our ambition to grow our markets and make them a key part of our destination offer which will not only appeal to residents, but will also bring in visitors from outside of the city.
“I’m sure this next instalment will prove to be popular once again, and that we can make this a permanent, seasonal offer at the Hall.”
The first market took place on June 16 and attracted over 3,000 visitors. The next Winter Market will be held on Sunday November 3.
