Liverpool City Council have today announced Croxteth Hall walled gardens have received almost £250k funding to nurture, maintain and improve the communal area.
Councillor Harry Doyle said: “We are absolutely delighted that we have been successful.
“We have plants from all over the world here, in the peach house which we are hoping to renovate”.
The community development comes in partnership with the National Lottery fund who have contributed over £2bn, supporting over 12,000 projects in the North.
Cllr Doyle spoke on a video for the Liverpool City Council on the importance of the natural world, and what they offer on their grounds in terms of long-term, essential benefits.
“Some of the plants have real significance in the medical field but also real significant educational benefit too”. from Heritage Fund UK
Additional Heritage Fund UK projects
Other projects in Merseyside being supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund include Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and National Museums Liverpool, who are partnering on a project of Galkoff’s and the Secret Life of Pembroke Place.
The project will look at the history of two significant heritage sites – Court Housing and the former Galkoff’s butchers shop.
Assistant Mayor and City Centre councillor Nick Small said: “I’m really pleased the grant has been secured from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
“This will allow all the partners involved to develop an excellent project and involve members of the public, as well as building a strong case for further support from the Heritage Lottery Fund.”
The partners have received an over all total of £52,400 to sustain their investigation works and future development plans.
