An 85-year-old woman who had a large amount of cash stolen from her while travelling on a bus in Warrington is urging people to be vigilant.
Police were called to reports of a high value theft in Warrington at approximately 3:50pm on Thursday November 16.
The caller had reported that three women had stolen a large sum of money from an older woman travelling on the number 2 Latchford bus.
It is believed that the two women had distracted the victim and followed her onto the bus.
The 85-year-old was shocked to find that the money she had drawn out and put in her shopping trolley was gone. She is now urging residents to be more careful especially when out alone.
She said: “When I lifted the lid up, everything was opened, and I screamed on the bus in shock.
”Be very careful, I have told a few people myself. I’d like to say, whether you think you are safe or not, make sure you are. Be aware it can happen to you anywhere.”
Police have launched an investigation, and have released CCTV images of three women who they believe hold vital information in regard to the incident.
Police are also urging people to be careful with their money on the run up to Christmas.
PC Graham Davies said: “This really can happen to anyone, anywhere, and people can have very sophisticated ways of distracting you before stealing your belongings.
“Some people may not even realise it can happen to them until much later.
”If possible, don’t withdraw large amounts of cash in one go, or try and use cashless methods of payments.”
The investigation is ongoing, and Cheshire Police urge anyone with information to contact them via their website quoting IML-1692502.
