Campaigns up and down the UK are being launched to mark ‘Recycle Week 2022’ from October 17-23. After the death of the Queen, Recycle Week was postponed this year but has now been re-scheduled for this week.
National Recycling Week was founded 25 years ago by Planet Ark to highlight the benefits of reusing and recycling.
The theme of this year is ‘Let’s get real about recycling’ – as stated on the official Recycle website: “We’re a nation of real recyclers. Real people, with real lives that sometimes get in the way.”
Liverpool BID Company have partnered with Every Can Counts to create a rainbow constructed of 2,500 recycled cans in Williamson Square. The aim of this installation is to raise awareness and inspire the next generation to recycle more with their empty cans and containers.
Liverpool BID Company’s marketing manager, Chloe Gaughan said: “We work on behalf of our 1,000 levy-paying businesses across the city.
“We work on bringing additionality through improving the environment and safety as well as improving opportunities for connectivity.”
According to research conducted by Every Can Counts, 72% of Liverpool residents say that they are becoming more conscious of the environment and the impact they can have on it.
Every Can Counts UK states: “Our mission is to inspire, encourage and empower people to recycle their drink cans wherever they are.”
A competition has been launched to give people a chance to win a £150 flannels gift card. Participants must post a photo of the rainbow with the #EVERYCANCOUNTS and tag the social media accounts.
This year’s recycling week is sponsored by food and drink companies, and Liverpool Football Club have played a part by hosting 400 local school children at Anfield to help spread awareness about sustainability and recycling.
The club said: “Together we aim to empower the next generation to help create a better world through our #Goals4Change partnership.”
