A 16-year-old boy has died after going into water in Eastham, Wirral.

Merseyside Police, North West Ambulance Service, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and the HM Coastguard were called to Eastham Locks at around 5:45pm on Wednesay 30 April.

The report stated that a teenage boy had “gone into water”.

Following an extensive search, the body of a 16-year-old boy was sadly recovered.

An investigation is ongoing, but police said there are believed to be no suspicious circumstances at this time.

The statement from Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm that a teenage boy has died following an incident in Eastham yesterday afternoon, Wednesday 30 April.

“At around 5.45pm, officers, along with NWAS, MFRS and the Coastguard, were called to Eastham Locks off Bankfields Drive to a report that a teenage boy had gone into the water.

Wirral Local Policing Inspector Sharon Robinson said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the boy following this tragic incident, and specialist officers will be supporting them, as well as those who saw what happened.

“We ask that you please give them privacy at this difficult time.”
