The family of a 63-year-old who died after a forklift accident have paid tribute to “a much-loved son, dad and very devoted grandad.”
The man has been named as Michael Leppert from Seaforth.
Police confirmed that Mr Leppert had died after an industrial incident involving a forklift occurred at Seaforth Docks yesterday morning.
Merseyside Police said in a statement yesterday: “We can sadly confirm that a 63-year-old man has died following an industrial incident at Seaforth Docks.
“At around 10.15am, emergency services were called to the docks following reports that the man had been involved in an incident with a fork lift truck. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“A joint investigation into the circumstances of his death will be carried out by detectives at Merseyside Police and the Health and Safety Executive.”
Last night Phil Hall, Port Director, Port of Liverpool confirmed the tragedy.
He said: “We are deeply saddened to confirm that a fatality occurred at the Port of Liverpool earlier today.
“Full details of the incident are not yet clear. Our immediate priority is supporting the family of the deceased, and any of our colleagues who have been impacted by the incident, in any way we can.
We will fully cooperate with the Merseyside Police and the Health and Safety Executive in their ongoing investigations.”
In a brief statement his family said: “Mike was a much-loved son, dad and very devoted grandad and he will be sorely missed. The family request privacy at this time as they process their loss.”
