A 14-year-old boy from Kirkdale has been arrested on Walton Hall Avenue, Walton following suspicious behaviour on an electric bike.

When approached by officers the teenager discarded the bike and fled, being detained shortly after where he was found to be in possession of a samurai sword.

A teen was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article in a public place and was released under investigation.

The samurai sword was seized by officers.

Inspector Chris Taylor said: “Tackling knife crime is a priority for the Force and we are determined to make our communities safer for generations to come by getting knives off our streets and acting against those prepared to use them.”

According to Merseyside Police there has been a 6.5% fall in knife crime across Merseyside in the last year.

More than 3,000 young people from across Merseyside have been taking part in ‘Operation Prospect’, a Merseyside Police project aimed at educating students about knife and gun crime developed by Merseyside Police’s Safer Schools Co-ordinator, Faye Smith and Matrix Firearms Officer Robert Ingleby.

The project is part of a wider effort to reduce knife crime, with Merseyside Police also working alongside the Violence Reduction Partnership, Safer Schools Team and community organisations.

Inspector Taylor said: “I urge parents and guardians to speak to their children about the danger of carrying knives; we know that those who carry weapons are more likely to become a victim themselves.
