Liverpool City Council has announced that St George’s Hall will host a ‘national COVID-19 day of reflection’ event on Sunday March 9th, to mark the pandemic’s five-year anniversary.

The Grade 1 listed venue will become a focal point for remembering the pandemic’s impact on the city.

The great hall will be decorated with paper lantern illuminations, supplied by local arts organisation The Lantern Company.

The artwork will be accompanied by ambient soundscapes to encourage quiet contemplation on the personal and economic hardships experienced by so many during the pandemic.

Cllr. Liam Robinson, Council Leader said: “St George’s Hall will be a hub to reflect on this time of so many mixed emotions, acknowledging our city’s resilience, strength, and solidarity, and looking ahead to the future with hope.”

The occasion will also include a ‘Book of Commemoration’ in which members of the public can write a message of reflection.

Cllr. Matthew Ashton, Director of Public Health, said: “Every single one of us has been affected by Covid. The intensity of our shared experience should never be underestimated”.

He continued: “Thankfully we are well into our recovery journey, and one of the most important lessons we have learnt, is the power of strong communities and partnerships.”

The event will take place from 10AM until 4PM on the Sunday.
