To mark the 20th LGBT+ History Month and celebrate Sahir’s 40 years of support in the community, Board Gaymes is hosting a special fundraiser at Lovelocks Coffee Shop on Friday 21 February.

“The Lovelocks mantra is inclusivity. No matter who you are, Lovelocks is the place for you.”

Since 1985, Sahir has been a cornerstone of Liverpool’s LGBTQ+ community, providing essential support, advocacy, and a safe space and support for those living with HIV.

John Hyland, Sahir’s Community Partnership & Individual Giving lead, said: “We’re so grateful to Board Gaymes for supporting Sahir House with this fantastic fundraiser.

“Celebrating 40 years of serving the LGBTQ+ community is a huge milestone for us, and it means the world to see people coming together to support our work in such a fun and inclusive way.

“Events like this don’t just raise vital funds – they also create safe, welcoming spaces where people can connect, celebrate, and uplift each other.

“A huge thank you to everyone involved, we can’t wait for a great evening at Lovelocks.”

Ripley Leatherbarrow is the co-founder of Board Gaymes, a community group born from a trio of friends who wanted to ‘create a safe space for LGBTQ+ people to connect and create lasting friendships’.

Ripley said: “We have been running queer board games nights for a year and a half with enormous success.

“Sahir is one of the oldest LGBT charities in the country. Its work supporting trans people, queer people and people with HIV is vital, especially with the current political landscape.

“On a personal level, Sahir has been very encouraging to us as a fairly new queer social group – we didn’t expect them to reach out to us, but we are truly grateful for it.

“It’s great that the Liverpool queer community has an established legacy charity still making connections with the smaller grassroots queer groups in the city, and we want to support those efforts of creating community cohesion and a safe place for Liverpool’s LGBTQ+ people however we can.”

Lovelocks is an independent, inclusive coffee shop nestled in the Edwardian architecture of Liverpool’s city centre. Owner Sarah Lovelock described the pride of being part of such a worthwhile fundraiser: “The folks at Gaymes Night always know how to make a super welcoming and inclusive event and working with them on this is our absolute pleasure.

“Sahir house is an integral part of the Liverpool queer community, they are supportive, kind, understanding, patient, generous, motivated and incredibly active in making positive changes.

“Sahir have seen some real tragic losses over the years, still they stand strong and do not waiver in supporting others.

“I could not think of a better cause.”
