Flight cancellations have caused a massive disruption for UK travellers this week -including from Liverpool John Lennon Airport – as a result of the extreme weather conditions.

This followed a yellow weather warning for ice and snow in the Merseyside region, which will be the sixth weather warning in a row today.

The snow caused the closure of multiple runways at Liverpool John Lennon and Manchester airports, leaving commuters burdened with long wait times.

Gemma Brown, Head of Commercial at Travel Republic, one of the UK’s leading online holiday companies, has given advice for anyone who may be experiencing travel delays or cancelations at these airports.

She said: ‘Should your airline cancel your upcoming flight, try to re-book a flight as early in the morning as you can as further delays and cancellations often rise and affect later flights.’

Her advice for anyone already at the airport during the disruptions was to simply “stay calm”.

Gemma suggested planning alternative options whilst waiting to speak to staff at the airport and said that another good option would be to contact the airline helpline for assistance as there may be limited staff in the actual airport.

The airline may be able to provide you with things such as e-credit, a voucher, or flexibility to change your travel dates.

Coming prepared with your own research about new arrangements is also helpful whilst keeping in mind that your preferred new flight may not be possible.
