Over £5m is being invested into Southport to help its recovery from the attacks last July.

The announcement has been made by Sefton Borough Council and follows the devastating attack when three girls were killed at a Taylor Swift dance class.

The money will be invested into well-being services for those affected as well as economic help for local businesses.

Sefton councillor Marion Atkinson said: “The future wellbeing and unity of our communities is paramount as we work to create a stronger and more together Southport.

“We want and encourage the public to stay informed, participate in various support programs and take full advantage of the resources available for emotional, social, and economic support.”

Nearly £2.5m will be given to local schools to increase support for children who may be struggling with their mental health, while another two million will be given to businesses in Southport, including some which were affected by the riots which took place on the day after the attack.

The rest of the money will be used for community initiatives to help reduce local tension as well as tackling extremist ideology.
