Merseyrail has introduced a new deal of unlimited weekend daily travel between any of Merseyrail’s 69 stations for just £2 a day this month.

The offer is available at ticket offices or ticket vending machines across Merseyside.

Metro mayor Steve Rotheram hopes that it will help people travel around Liverpool City Region without worrying about cost.

Mr Rotheram said that making public transport “more affordable and accessible” was a major aspect of his mission to help build a reliable transport network.

Along with extending the bus fare cap of £2, the mayor claims this is just another way he has made travel around Merseyside “more affordable and accessible.”

This scheme is part of a series of initiatives by the Mayor to help reduce the cost of public transport.

The offer also extends to tickets for children between the age of 1-15 being reduced to £1 during January.

Mayor Rotheram described his aim as “making life better for people whether that’s getting to work, visiting family or just enjoying a day out”.

The reduction in the price of tickets has been paid for by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority from funds recovered from train manufacturer Stadler.

The Mayor also said: “I hope as many people as possible will take full advantage and use it to see the best our city region has to offer – from the coastline of Formby and New Brighton, to wonderful museums and cultural attractions in Liverpool city centre!”
