Baa Bar are hosting their new event ‘Candyland’ to help support upcoming female DJs in Liverpool.
With the music industry stereotypically being male-dominated, the event aims to create a pathway where female artists can feel confident and comfortable to perform.
The was a noticeable gap in the industry for female DJs, the venue’s manager Sam McMinn said.

Once a month, nine female DJs come together to make a statement of their sound in one of Liverpool’s most popular clubs.

It has been estimated that one-in-ten of females make up the percentage of DJs, with half of those being producers. Liverpool is known for its night scene with people coming from all parts of the UK.
Candyland has been a great success on ticket sales, with 4 out of 5 sell outs. Sam shared the reports from ticket sales on Fatsoma, on 1st of November 2024 the event managed to sell 855.
Sam added: “It’s the most tickets we’ve ever sold for a Friday in the whole year” – the previous year they only sold 118.

Baa Bar has created a safe space to encourage women to feel empowered behind the decs. Not only for its residence but it has opened up doors for artist to approach the club to help build their career.
