A fitness challenge called ‘January 75’ has mushroomed on social media.

Users are given the choice to complete the soft, medium or hard version of the challenge for 75 days. It follows a very strict regime but can also be adapted to suit whoever is completing the challenge by making up their own rules.

A checklist of the basic factors that go into the ‘January 75’ hard challenge include that of no cheat meals or alcohol, exercising twice a day (45 minutes at a time), reading everyday and drinking about a gallon of water a day.

People are encouraged to take photographs to track their progress. Not only is the challenge advertised to be physically challenging, it also it a very big mental commitment for those taking part.

On TikTok there has seen to be a mass number of people joining in and posting their own tips and tricks about how they will be completing the challenge. For example, workout ideas, meal plans and book suggestions.

The hashtag ‘75hardchallenge’ has almost 500k posts under it and growing as more people begin this week. TikTok users have used this to their advantage by gaining support and sharing their versions.

I am going into a very busy and exciting year

TikTok user Olivia Broadbent invited her 57.8k followers to join her on January 1 to begin the 75 hard challenge. The video received 630k views and Olivia has been posting daily updates and vlogs ever since she started.

Olivia said: “I wanted to start the year with a mindset and physical reset as I am going into a very busy and exciting year.

“January feels like the perfect time to commit to something challenging, and 75 Hard is as much about mental toughness as it is about physical progress, which some people misunderstand. It’s an opportunity to focus, grow, and set the tone for the rest of the year.

“I realised there’s a lot of misinformation and intimidation around 75 Hard. Documenting my journey for others wanting to change their mindset and do 75 hard, allows me to share the highs and lows, inspire others to try it, and create a sense of community for people who may feel alone in their journey.”

This is the first year Olivia has attempted the challenge despite having always been intrigued by it. Whilst preparing for the challenge she found that the hardest part would be the daily tracking of all the tasks and others seemed to have the same problem.

That is when she came up with the idea to have her own platform where herself and others can track their progress simply and effectively.

Olivia said: “It’s been gaining traction very quickly! People love having a space where they can track their progress, share milestones, and connect with others doing this challenge. It’s exciting and rewarding to see how it’s helping build a supportive and friendly community.”

“The platform simplifies the process and keeps people accountable. It’s a visual reminder of their progress, which can be incredibly motivating. Plus, seeing others’ success stories and struggles creates a sense of relatability which is often the push people need to keep going.”

Olivia also stresses the importance of health and wellbeing in January because habits are made and if these are positive with a strong mindset then a good foundation for the rest of the year is made.
