Liverpool John Lennon Airport have reopened their runway after cancelling and delaying flights following snow in Merseyside.

The Met Office had given the area a yellow weather warning for snow and ice until 10am today, which has disrupted travel, which includes flights and trains.

A spokesperson for the airport said this morning: “Our runway is now open and flights should resume shortly.

“Safety is our uppermost priority and we would like to thank passengers for their patience whilst we cleared the snow and ice”.

In a statement yesterday, the Met Office said: “In addition to the ice, we could see snow accumulations of a few cm above 200 metres, with a chance of greater than 5 cm above 200 metres in Wales.

“The heaviest snow showers may also produce temporary accumulations of 0-2 cm at low levels. It is not possible to say exactly where this snow might fall, so it’s important that people are prepared.”

People in the city have also been warned to stay safe whilst driving on the roads, following flood warnings and road closures yesterday and today.

You can follow the latest weather updates on the Met Office website, or alternatively, on John Lennon Airport’s website.
