A 38-year-old man was tracked and detained by Merseyside Police dog ‘Mizz’.

The man was arrested on suspicion of arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and going equipped for theft in Billinge.

Police were contacted at 3.15am this morning, following reports that a man had been disturbed whilst trying to force entry into the house.

The man had made off on foot but was later tracked down by PD Mizz and a handler at a nearby housing estate.

A number of items were recovered including a balaclava, gloves, torch, screwdriver and a snapped door lock believed to be from a different address.

A man is currently in police custody as enquiries are on going.
