This weekend over 8,500 Santas dashed through the streets of Liverpool to raise money for charity – or just for fun.

A sea of red and blue Santas dawned upon the Royal Liver Buildings on Sunday morning for the 20th anniversary of the dash.

Liverpool FC legend John Barnes was at the Santa dash to support Rugby superstar Kevin Sinfield, who ran in memory of his teammate Rob Burrow. Rob died of motor neurone diseases earlier this year.

John said: “I’m here to support Kevin, and his work which he has done in support of MND is admirable, and I’d like to think if I went through something like what Rob Burrow did, or my ex-teammates, then we would all support each other.”

Kevin is running more than 230 miles in seven days across the UK – and his challenge began at the annual Santa Dash.

The future of Zoe’s place has also been an important topic for everyone in Liverpool over the past few months.

Gina Earnshaw, Senior Corporate and Major Donor fundraiser for Zoe’s Place, said: “BTR – who run these Santa Dashes and the half marathon – have about eight charity spaces per year and we have been lucky to have been involved with them for the full year now.

“We had 50 runners in the half marathon in March, which was something we were really proud and excited about and now we have 500 people running for us in this year’s Santa Dash.”

“We have grown so much and it’s amazing. Hopefully we are bringing a lot of money for the charity.”
