Rice, pasta, nuts, dried fruits, detergents, and washing-up liquid can all be purchased in a more economical way.

All you need to do is, select the product you would like to buy, weigh the container you have brought with you, fill the container and re-weigh to deduct the original weight and finally pay.

Pei Yee Tong, who has re-launching the business said: ‘The advantage of our service is the customer can choose how much to buy, compared with just buying a standard size in supermarket.

“This provides more choices to consumers, and they can try new things without buying a full pack.”

Eco Refill allows you to try new foods and reduce the risk of waste if you don’t like it. For individuals who may have sensitive skin, it is good to test out the washing liquids as you can buy and use a small amount to see if your skin reacts reducing the risk of wasting your money on buying a full bottle at the supermarket and not being able to use it.

John Lally, Communication and Development Officer at Merseyside Recycling & Waste Authority said: “In 2023/2024 the total household waste was 654,417 tonnes” and only ‘137,7834 tonnes’ was recycled. This shows that a large amount of waste is being produced in Merseyside.

With the aim to make Liverpool more eco-friendly, customers have easier access to sustainable products. The Zero Waste policy by re-using, refilling, and rethinking gives hope that everyone can do something for the planet with small changes.
