Meet Sole Rebel – the Liverpool tap dancing company that is bringing out the dancers in all of us.
Creating a community filled with artists, musicians and dancers alike, Sole Rebel played one of their final shows of 2024 this week.
Their tap-dancing jams are a way to showcase their creative side to the community.
This time performed in the Caledonia Pub in Liverpool city centre to a packed-out room, both musicians and dancers alike took to the stage to give a great performance.
Founded in 2011 by Hannah Ballard their mission has been to “share the joy and community of tap dance, through education and practical classes”.
They also collaborate with a wide range of musicians who hold “vital roles in the work that goes on at Sole rebel”.
They encourage all types of people to get involved with their website saying they teach a range of weekly classes to people from 2 – 82 years of age from beginners to advanced levels.
Their tap-dancing jams, which are hosted in venues like Arts Bar and The Caledonia, occur once a month for all to come along to which they say promote improvisation technique and musicality.
While Hannah Ballard is the founder and director in Liverpool, there is also Lexi Bradburn who oversees the company in London and Oxford.
“Tap-dancing has so many benefits, it’s a great way to socialise and become part of a community, and we always say that you can always ‘tap your blues away’, so yes, it’s great for mental wellbeing as well”. Said Hannah Ballard.
Sole Rebel will be performing this Friday (22nd Nov) at Unity Theatre, and their final tap-dancing jam of the year will be the 8th of December.
