The UK Government has reintroduced the Employment Rights Bill, promising an extra £600 as additional income for Britain’s lowest paid workers.
This initiative, announced by the Department for Business and Trade in collaboration with other government departments is expected to benefit approximately ten million people across the country, including thousands in Liverpool.
It aims to ‘get Britain working again’, with new measures such as guaranteed hours and compensation for lost work hoping to positively impact economic growth.
Liverpool, which is predominantly working class, is set to gain immensely from this reform. For many residents this will provide crucial financial support after the rise of living costs.
The bill is being labelled as a ‘landmark’ change, with backing from important figures like Deputy PM Angela Rayner and Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall.
Though little, this offers a flash of hope for the workforce in Liverpool and the city’s future.
