Sefton Council are asking Southport residents to remove tributes to the victims of the attacks that happened at a Taylor Swift dance class in July.

Locals had hung pink ribbons outside their homes, businesses or in public as a show of support for the three girls who had been killed as well as the 10 others who were injured in the incident.

The council have said that while those affected had found “incredible comfort” in the tributes, there were some members of the community who were finding it emotionally triggering to see them every day.

Council officers will also remove items from public spaces like benches or lamp posts and are writing to the general public to follow suit.

Ollie Cowan, a spokesperson for Sefton Council, said: “There are some people who say they don’t understand why its coming from the council, which is completely understandable in an instance like this. A lot of people just think councils are just for collecting your bins and repairing the carriageways. Actually Sefton council has been one of the key responders in the recovery of what happened in Southport.”

The council is also considering a permanent memorial in the future, although nothing has been set in stone.
