Zoe’s Place, the care centre and babies hospice in West Derby, is set to close its doors later this year after 30 years.
The first Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice opened in Liverpool in 1995. It provided respite, end of life and palliative care for babies, infants and children across Merseyside and the North West with life-limiting conditions and complex needs.
The care centre on Yew Tree Lane has been forced to announce its closure as a lack of funding and planning permission meant a new building could not be constructed.
In addition, a significant rise in the projected costs and the challenge of raising funding amid the current economic landscape has resulted in the worst possible outcome for the hospice.
Ian Byrne, MP for West Derby, described the closure of Zoe’s Place as a “huge shock”
He said he would try his best to salvage the “sorely needed service”.
