The region’s metro mayor Steve Rotheram has announced free travel for care leavers aged 18 -21 across Liverpool City region.
The passes will be allowed on buses, trains and ferries across the city region with over 1,000 people expected to benefit.
The scheme will allow passholders to easily undertake work or training, as well as meet with friends and family and enjoy activities. It will also allow care leavers to boost their independence and decrease social isolation.
The arrangement was announced at September’s meeting of the Combined Authority and is supported by major transport operators within the city and is intended to help young people gain their independence.
Steve Rotheram said: “Young people leaving care in our region often face real difficulties settling into their new lives.
“We know that access to free travel can have a hugely positive impact on their ability to connect with opportunity.”
