A Merseyside mum has said she feels “incredibly anxious” due to the amount of rat-infested rubbish being left near her home.

Dominique Mangan, from Everton, said the pile of rubbish is so high she is unable to sit in her living room due to the unpleasant view.

Photos she posted recently on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) about the mess have attracted over a million views.

Dominique told MerseyNewsLive: “It smells, I have rat holes that have been dug under my fence, rats are out in daylight. There is a least 6ft of waste in some parts of the garden.”

Dominique said the issues started around four years ago, and it has since become so bad she has had to buy a higher fence to try and block the mountain of waste which now resembles a scrap yard.

She has also installed security cameras around her property to try and catch local fly-tippers in the act.

Dominique has made many reports to Liverpool City Council over the years but has had limited response.

However, local councillors Ellie Byrne and Jane Corbett are helping her bring the issue forward to the council.

She said: “Ellie and Jane have sent loads of emails for me, and they have tried to help but it’s just going on and on.

“Catherine, the new neighbourhood manager for the council, has been in touch a lot and I can say she is great, she has really is taken ownership.

“She has called me more than twice a day sometimes, I’m so thankful.”

Last week, Dominique posted multiples pictures of the “pile of waste” on X, which gathered over one million views and prompted thousands of people to lend their support and express disgust over the situation.

A spokesperson for Liverpool City Council told MerseyNewsLive: “This issue is subject to an ongoing investigation and we will be communicating with the affected residents accordingly.”
