A 38-year-old man who bottled a taxi driver causing permanent scarring has been jailed for more than three years.
Craig Davies, 38, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, after slashing a taxi driver with a broken wine bottle.
The Burnley man was sentenced to 40 months in jail at Liverpool Crown Court this Monday, 22 April.
The incident occurred around 8am on Tuesday 16th August 2022, when the taxi driver refused Davies’ fare due to his visible drunkenness.
Davies proceeded to swear, and headbutt the window of the taxi, the court heard.
The driver, 62, got out of the car to confront Davies, who hit him across the face with a broken wine bottle.
British Transport Police officers then arrested Davies on suspicion of assault after he was identified by the victim.
Investigating Officer DC Juliet Thomas said: “The victim has been left traumatised by what happened and feels nervous going about his everyday job, this in addition to the permanent facial scarring which Davies inflicted in his alcohol fuelled rage.
“Being intoxicated and claiming to thus have little memory of such a vicious attack is no defence as is clearly demonstrated by the sentence handed down by the courts.”
