Over £15m pounds from the government’s Levelling Up fund will be allocated to Halewood to improve sport and leisure facilities, and transport.
The funding will deliver upgrades to Halewood leisure centre and improve the playing pitches at Wood Road Green Space.
New routes for cyclists will also be created between the new housing development in East Halewood and the Wood Green Road Space to West Halewood.
These routes will go through Finch Woods, the leisure centre and the town centre.
Funding will also be spent on new trees for the area and street furniture.
However, other applicants and projects in Merseyside failed to secure funding including two in Knowsley – Prescott and Huyton.
Cllr Graham Morgan, leader of Knowsley Council, said: “It is an exciting time for Halewood, with the £15.3m secured from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to complement and enhance the significant package of investment already taking place in Halewood.
“Major investment has now been secured for Halewood and the injection of Levelling Up Funding will help to accelerate our plans and ensure our communities get the improved services and facilities they deserve.”
