Liverpool City Council is extending an invitation to education partners to take part in a special business mission to China.
Liverpool’s twinning with Shanghai has been a significant milestone in the city’s history, and this business mission presents an opportunity for Liverpool-based education partners to contribute to the success of their partnership.
The mission aims to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Liverpool’s twining with Shanghai and will provide exclusive access to senior decision makers in government, business and academic works.
The four-day quest will take place in June, and will be supported by Liverpool, Shanghai and UK governments, including the British Consulate General and British Council in Shanghai. It aims to promote Liverpool education, learning, and skills providers to access the Chinese market and export internationally.

It will also facilitate international youth travel while promoting Liverpool as a prime destination to visit, study and invest.
Additionally, the mission aims to strengthen the Liverpool- Shanghai innovation partnership through higher education networks.
The programme could also potentially include, depending on the delegations composition: an education agent workshop, visits to international schools, university collaborations, an East China education stakeholder roundtable, high-level meetings with the Shanghai Government and education authorities as well as partner-led activities.
Liverpool City Council intents to secure external sponsorship and central government funding to cover the costs of business events and meetings, local transportation and interpretation services.
Delegates will be responsible for covering their own international and domestic travel in China, accommodation, subsistence, and any additional costs.
Councillor Nick Small, Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet member for Growth and Economy, said: “Liverpool’s relationship with Shanghai is very special, not least because of our historic connection through Europe’s oldest Chinese community.
“But our relationship is not just rooted in the past, it has prospered over the past 25 years, evidenced by the close partnerships between our respective universities and the opportunities these academic connections can bring to our local business community.
“This special delegation to Shanghai in June provides a great platform to boost our existing links with Shanghai in education, trade, culture, tourism, sports and community exchanges, as well as helping to identify new partnership opportunities in targeted areas.
“It’s a unique opportunity to get exclusive access to decision makers and network at the highest level with British and Chinese agencies.”
To participate, you must submit an application form and local businesses must demonstrate a minimum of a 24 month trading record to be eligible to take part in this education mission.
