Renowned artist Paul Curtis has unveiled his latest mural at Bootle’s newest venue Salt and Tar. The 10-metre artwork features local band – and Salt and Tar ambassadors – Red Rum Club.

The band’s lead vocalist Francis Doran said: “Salt and Tar is such an exciting project to be a part of. It’s aimed at bringing together people through art, culture and music which is deep within the ethos of Red Rum Club”.

Red Rum Club are an English rock band formed in 2016 consisting of Francis, Tom Williams, Michael McDermott, Simon Hepworth, Neil Lawson and Joe Corby.

The completion of the mural is in perfect harmony with the release of Red Rum Club’s new album “Western Approaches”, which will be released on February 23.

The artwork will feature in Paul’s upcoming exhibition “In One Place”,  which will be Liverpool’s first ever indoor street art exhibition and will be held in the Royal Liver Building.

Salt and Tar is set to expand Liverpool’s music scene even further with the hopes of becoming a vibrant and thriving venue. Located in the Strand shopping centre on Washington Parade, it is not only a music venue but also offers comedy nights and street food events.

Paul Curtis said: “Music has always been a part of my life and I’m a fan of Red Rum Club, so I’m really excited to be involved in this project.

“I also think what Salt and Tar are doing is great for the area. It has been challenging doing six portraits in freezing weather, but I hope the lads like the finished mural.”

The regeneration of Salt and Tar is all due to Sefton Council seeing the potential of the space and how it can really add to Bootle’s atmosphere.

Cllr Marion Atkinson, leader of Sefton council, added: “Paul’s beautiful artwork is another sign of Salt and Tar becoming a significant landmark in the Borough and a big part of The Strand redevelopment project”.

The newly-developed outdoor venue has a capacity of 3,000.
