Liverpool city council is set to approve a £833,000 grant towards the city’s TV and film scene in a welcome boost for the region.
In alliance with four northern companies – Liverpool Film Office, North East Screen, Screen Manchester, and Screen Yorkshire Limited – the investment will create opportunities for a more inclusive and diverse workforce.
With many media organisations running schemes to create a more inclusive workforce, such as the BBC’s 50:50 Project, opportunities are being created across the board.
The grant aims to plug skills gaps across the industry by bringing in more entry-level roles for younger people.
Some of the opportunities include:
• Entry level training courses
• Paid industry placements to work on film and TV production
• Industry-led workshops, panels and masterclasses
• Film and TV studio and set visits
Steve Rotheram, Liverpool City Region Mayor, said: “This investment is about raising young people’s ambitions and making them realise that they don’t need to move down South to build a career in the film industry.
“Instead, we want to give the next generation access to opportunities to train and develop their skills and ensure we’re retaining the very best talent here in the North.”
With the second series of Liverpool-based TV show ‘Time’ about to hit our screens, the city’s profile in the film industry is as high as ever.
This follows the world-wide broadcast of Eurovision earlier this year, which attracted 11m viewers, according to the BBC.
