Liverpool is coming together this month to celebrate black history.
Organisations, businesses, and universities across the city are working together to make an unforgettable month for black heritage.

What’s going on this month in Liverpool?
Blackfest
Blackfest has held several events since August 27 that celebrate different aspects of black culture from hip-hop to fashion. Tonight (October 17) a visual arts exhibition launches at Smithdown Social Arts Hub. Free tickets are still available for the event at 6pm
Katumba Drumming & Movement
Also tonight (October 17) Katumba Culture Hub is hosting a celebration of African Brazilian carnival with a free drumming and movement session at 6:30pm
Black History Month Day Festival
Black History Month’s festival at St. Georges Hall takes place this Saturday from 12pm-6pm, local artists will take the stage at the hall with a vibrant range of genres including rap, poetry, and Neo-jazz. All profits will go towards the restoration of the hall as well as supporting a more educational and diverse space for the community
Black Market
24 Kitchen Street is hosting one of the last events of the month with a focus on black businesses, products that are purchased there are all locally produced and include clothing, jewellery, and food. Black Market takes place on October 24 from 11am-5pm

The Anthony Walker Foundation is a local organisation that was founded following the racially aggravated murder of Anthony in 2006, the foundation works in his memory by providing victim support services as well as providing educational opportunities to tackle racism.
