A man has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering a 22-month-old baby in Speke.
Jonathan Simpson, 25, was sentenced to a minimum of 19 years in prison for the murder of Jacob Marshall.
Simpson was charged with murder in July 2019 following Jacob’s death in hospital. He had been looking after Jacob that afternoon.
Simpson was found guilty following a trial at Liverpool Crown Court.
Detective Chief Inspector Sabi Kaur said: “This has been an absolutely heart-breaking case, in which we have seen the utter devastation that Simpson caused.
“It is difficult to comprehend how Simpson could end the life of a 22-month-old child and then run away and deny any responsibility, both to Jacob’s mother and then to the police.
“We can only hope that Simpson being brought to justice today gives Jacob’s family and their friends some sense of justice.”
